Brand
DOD takes its name from David Oreste DiFrancesco, who founded the company in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1974 with musician John Johnson. Its first big seller was the Overdrive Preamp 250, and DOD marketed itself as America's Pedal. The FX series arrived in the 1980s, and in the 1990s designer Jason Lamb turned it loud with pedals like the FX69 Grunge and FX32 Meat Box. DiFrancesco and Johnson sold the company to Harman International around 1990. Years later Harman employee Tom Cram revived DOD as a side project, and new versions of the 250 and the 201 Phasor arrived in 2013. Cortek, the parent company of Cort Guitars, bought DOD and DigiTech in 2022. In a listing, test the footswitch first, since Guitar World calls the older ones somewhat dodgy, and look for an LED and a modern power jack to spot a reissue.
