Thomas Walter Jennings founded Vox in Dartford, England, in 1957, and it's best known for the AC15 and AC30 amps. Its wah came from America. Thomas Organ, which distributed Vox in the US, stumbled on the circuit while redesigning an amp in 1966, and Vox released it in February 1967 as the Clyde McCoy wah. Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton were among the first to record with one. The early pedals were built in Italy, and those Italian units are among the most collected wahs. Korg has owned Vox since 1992, and today's lineup runs from the budget V845 and the V847A to hand-wired and vintage-spec V846 models and the Real McCoy. In a listing, check the model on the bottom plate, ask for a clip of a slow sweep to hear the pot, and ask whether the pot, jacks or inductor have been replaced.
