Electro-Harmonix · POG2 · 2009–present
EHX unveiled the original POG in 2005, an octave pedal that tracks full chords as well as single notes, and the POG2 followed in 2009. It's digital, with eight sliders that set your dry signal, two octaves down, one down, one up and two up, plus Attack, a low-pass filter and Detune. The second sub-octave and the Attack slider, which fades the octaves in for slow swells, were new on the POG2, and the filter picked up two more Q settings. It also stores eight presets, so you can save a deep organ stack and a jangly octave-up sound and switch between them. Jack White and Josh Homme are among the players who made the POG line part of their sound. It draws about 160mA, which is why EHX ships it with a 9.6-volt adapter, and it's true bypass. EHX has since released the POG3 with more voices and stereo outputs. If you want deep sub-octaves and stacked organ tones from one box with every voice on its own slider, the POG2 still does the job.
Dusty or scratchy sliders are the usual wear, along with tired preset and bypass switches. The adapter often goes missing, and it needs a supply that can deliver at least 160mA.
Buying guide
Buy a POG2 from a US seller, where used ones ask $254 to $367 delivered, and we'd start with the $254 one or the $310 one from citymusicsteve. About 68 are for sale and the $360–625 band is mostly Japanese dealers, most of them asking $440 to $750, and a box is the only extra any of them mention. None of these titles mention the power supply, and the POG2 needs a 9.6V adapter rated for 200mA, so ask whether it's included and take the cost of one off your offer if it isn't. Ask for a clip raising each slider on its own and strumming a full chord with the octaves up, and skip the copied-title listing from a 98.4% Japanese seller.
